The Pursuit of MANHOOD

"Be happy, young man, while you are young, and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth. Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes see, but know that for all these things God will bring you to judgment."--Ecclesiastes 11:9 - This blog is dedicated to Adam's fervent journey into becoming a man. Or just a blog about his life and thoughts in general.

What's the deal with Mormons?/What's the deal with Blogger?

sup,

i'm so confused with this new blogger system, apparently my yahoo address is my new google account... if someone understands, please let me know.

this isn't extremely interesting, but just wanted to talk a bit about mormons. they are often really nice. this has struck me as odd, cause.... they are heretics. i don't think that's harsh, or pharisee-esque, since the apostle paul (thus, the word of God) says, "But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed" (Galatians 1:8). So - Mormons = nice, and be nice to them, but have nothing to do with their "church" and know that they are accursed (so Preach the Gospel).

anyways, just watched this john piper video on youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czVmYKAavGQ&mode=related&search= (note: thus youtube has so many redeemable qualities). if you don't actually watch it, it essentially says that false teachers/heretics aren't gonna look evil and have devil-horns comin out of their heads, but they're gonna be real nice, just like satan doesn't appear in evil forms all the time, but usually satan works by seducing us.

so, i realized "man, thats why mormons seem so nice, satan loves to send us evil in attractive packages". on top of that, they have to earn their salvation, explaining their good behaviour. so, in conclusion, don't be surprised the next time you meet a mormon with a big pretty smile.

ps. if you feel i'm being harsh to mormons, check out http://www.aomin.org/LDSGrace.html or http://www.mormonwiki.org/Main_Page
pps. these thoughts, in my mind, apply to any group/individual that claim to proclaim the "gospel" but denies the basic teachings of the Gospel: saved by grace alone through faith alone, Christ's resurrection, our sinful nature, Christ's deity, etc.

are you in blogger beta now? I think that would explain the using your other address.

Interesting info. on mormons... I went to that link you have on Alpha/Omega ministries. They aren't on our campus anymore, right? I think it would be interesting to show that comparison chart to someone who is a mormon and see what they think. But then again, there are always new doctrines coming up.... a couple weeks ago, some guy down in the states thought he was Jesus, and apparently he has followers.

I really hope that people do not misinterpret what I’m saying. But here goes…

It’s very likely that a lot of Mormons have never heard the gospel before. Some Mormons may be just telling people the only message of hope that they know. These people ARE accursed, since they are living in bondage to sin without the hope and knowledge that they are righteous in God’s eyes because of what Christ has done for them. They are not assured of their salvation. And a lot of them probably feel captive to their Mormon beliefs. It is very hard to leave a “church” atmosphere like that. At the same time, Christ mourns for them, He longs for them to come to Him.

A lot of Mormon beliefs are wrong, and they are against the gospel. But that is why we need to have compassion for them. Those that are genuinely seeking God and trying to earn salvation are probably dying inside.

It is important to understand that Mormons do have a Biblical basis for saying that just professing that Christ is Lord is not enough. On one of the websites you linked to, it is implied that the following quote is contradictory to Christianity. “Certain saved-by-grace-alone fanatics flatter their followers into believing they can be saved through no act other than confessing Christ with their lips” (McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, p. 287). However, this is actually what the Bible teaches. It’s not enough to just confess that Christ is Lord with your lips. Even the demons did that! Does faith just mean saying a prayer? No.

You must truly believe. “For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved” (Romans 10:10).

When you become a Christian, you become a new creation. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (Corinthians 5:17).

This will translate into action and be evidenced by fruitfulness. “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead” (James 2: 17). “This is love for God: to obey his commands” (1 John 5:3). “We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. The man who says, ‘I know him,’ but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him” (1 John 2:3-4). “Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us” (1 John 3:24).

Mormons veer in the wrong direction when they say that it is our works that justify us, not God’s grace through Jesus Christ.

My point is that you have to understand where Mormons are coming from to be better witnesses to them. Do not explicitly reject everything they say, just because they are Mormon. They do have glimpses of truth, mixed with Satan's deceiving lies. They are preaching a false gospel, but that does not mean that they are not seeking the true gospel. True seekers are aching to know God. Next time you see a Mormon, be patient and understand that they’ve been indoctrinated over a long period of time. But God has His own timing in reaching people’s hearts and minds.

Hmm... i'm not sure exactly who wrote that, but here's my thoughts:

"Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind, and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you" (Moroni 10:32, Book of Mormon)

I respect this author a lot, so I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he knows what he's talking about. He also listed the passage quoted above on that same page.

The implication is that this passage, read plainly and in context (my assumption), teaches works, then grace, NOT GRACE THEN WORKS. We, ie. Prostestants or Evangelicals, believe the latter and curse the former.

I think you're being uncharitable in your reading of White's table, cause he would for sure agree with your statements, and the Mormon passage is not attacking easy-believism but the precious doctrine of faith alone.
